Sup everybody,
The video for “Bad Bee” is live! It’s premiering over at Week in Pop, here’s a link. You can also watch it in all its irreverent glory below. Thanks to Ben for starring in it, and Adam Ninyo for lending his equipment and expertise, and schlepping around Brooklyn all day with us.
As I’d imagine probably no one’s noticed, Miracle Sweepstakes got banned from Instagram this weekend. It’s the second time we’ve been suspended now. The first time happened the minute I posted links to our single “O-Pine” in our story and bio, and my theory was that the flurry of activity triggered some dumb AI sensor which flagged us as spam. This time, it may have been the same deal— I posted and updated our bio for Friday’s show at Sleepwalk, and got an email that our account was suspended shortly after. The difference this time is that I did post this image:
Zuck and the boys don’t tell you why you’re suspended, so we’ll never know the true culprit. Hard to imagine that Ben giving a very blurry middle finger in a bee costume is worse than like all the porno and stuff IG allows (not to mention all the weird stuff on Threads), but this is the problem with censorship in general. Even if there are objective rights and wrongs, there’s no universally agreed upon ones, so like, @Freedom_Dude1488’s political musings are offensive to some but not to others, and the same is somehow true of a screenshot from our dumb little mildly raunchy music video about a bee.
At any rate, the show is this Friday at Sleepwalk (251 Bushwick Ave), and it’s a great bill with Birthday Ass and Porkseed: the Negotiator. Doors are at 7, advance tix link here. We’re gonna screen the “Bad Bee” video and play a new one called “Lambchop,” which at ~80ish seconds is our shortest song ever. Here’s a rough voice memo clip of us playing it at practice last Friday:
Hope to see you this Friday. But if you can’t make it, you’re in luck— we’re playing another show Saturday. It’s at an art gallery in Manhattan called Gambit Works (1155 6th Avenue). Also on the bill are Fruit Dawg and Eater Life. Flyer below, tix info here.
I’ll level with ya: I don’t wanna go too hard on the sales pitch for Saturday because I don’t want to cut into Friday’s draw, that’s the one my ass is in the jackpot over. But if for you it’s Saturday’s show or no show at all, I merely leave this here without comment…
Keep Poundin’,
Craig
