Sup everybody,
This Saturday (Jan 4th), Hit is playing our first show of 2k25 at Our Wicked Lady (153 Morgan Ave, Bushwick). Also on the bill are the Girls, Sex Fixx, and Castle Black. Doors are at 7 and we’re on second. It’s on the (heated, technically enclosed) rooftop, and OWL recently announced that they’re in danger of shutting down, so your attendance could mean saving one of the like six venues that book us. It could be good karma to start off the year! You can get advance tix here.
We’ll be playing mostly new songs, but the album we put out in October is also still technically new for at least two more days. Bestseller’s gotten some year-end love, being included on Rosy Overdrive’s top 100 albums of the year list and among Nina Protocol’s top ten rock albums of 2024. It’s also available on CD (inquire within):
Speaking of new songs, here’s a demo of a Miracle Sweepstakes song in the works called “Evil Eye.” Earlier this year we recorded this improvised jam Ian did on his Korg, which I later built up the song around. I would describe it as MS’s “Temporary Secretary”:
More shows and new music to come in the new year. We made Bestseller and Last Licks (last year’s Miracle Sweepstakes album, if ya don’t know it) concurrently over a three year period, which consumed most of my non-working hours in some form, be it working on the actual music, the artwork, the music videos, or the hundreds of cold promo emails. That says nothing of the work Charles did in recording, mixing and playing on basically a double album’s worth of Hit material, or Justin, who mixed Last Licks and plays on every single song between the two records. And of course Cameron, Doug, and Ian bringing all those songs to life across countless recording sessions and practices. There’s no anything without these guys.
Over the course of those three years I went from the usual pipe dream ambitions anyone has with a creative endeavor, to realizing I’d be truly grateful just to finish both albums, and be happy with how they came out. I can confidently say that’s the case on both counts, and I’m extremely lucky for that. I feel like a new phase of creativity has begun, with even loftier artistic ambitions, and I hope 2025 goes a long way towards realizing ‘em.
To that end, the mantra is simple…
KEEP POUNDIN’,
Craig
I'm always pounding. Sometimes I'll forget but then you remind me to keep at it.
