Hey everybody,
This past Friday’s Miracle Sweepstakes show at Bowery Electric was a fun one. But given the inclement weather and the early set time, for a brief second there I was worried it wasn’t even going to happen at all.
Fortunately, I got to the venue just in the nick of time— the sound guy even let us start a couple minutes after 7, an unheard of level of flexibility from a LES venue. We played a tight 30 minute set of Last Licks songs, “Shoot the Blue,” and a new one called “Axeman’s Delight.” Here’s a snippet:
The title stems from a conversation I had with Justin of Porkseed: the Negotiator (fka Hound Pound), outside a show we played at Our Wicked Lady last year. Justin said he wished he’d written lead parts for their songs instead of just winging it during their set, but I said that playing lead guitar when you’ve got no parts prepared is what we in the ‘Biz call the Axeman’s Delight. In addition to being a dumb joke, it was ironic given that I am not good at improvisation.
This Sunday (1/28), Hit is playing a trio set at the Cobra Club in Bushwick (6 Wyckoff Ave) with Kissy Noises, Big Cry Country, and Tonsil Hockey. Who knows what we’ll play, a couple rarities perhaps? Maybe bust out a few embryonic new riffs? There is only one way for your ass to find out…
Keep Poundin’,
Craig
