Sup everybody,
This Friday (June 7th), Miracle Sweepstakes is playing Lucky 13 Saloon in Gowanus (644 Sackett St), for Negative Kitty’s preview screening party for the pilot of their animated series Beef Creek. The night will also feature sets from Fat Randy and Leon Knight, as well as various other animated shorts. Lucky 13 Saloon is a metal venue, replete with go-go dancers, and every band on the bill is metal except us.
The event is invite-only, but we have some invite codes you can use to buy tickets. Basically, you’d go to this Eventbrite link, click “Get tickets,” and copy/paste the code in. HMU if you wanna go, either at miraclesweepstakes@gmail.com, or I guess in the comments here or just text me if ya have my number. In terms of reasons to go, here’s what I came up with:
We could get our asses kicked: You don’t wanna mess with metalheads. They like their music heavy and their politics libertarian, so you can get on their bad side with everything from psych pop to drivers licenses. All four members of the band drive and Ian works in the public sector, so we are unfortunately totems of government intervention. This all says nothing of our wimpy ass music. We plan to keep our heads down, mind our beez, maybe even snag four of these to wear so we fit in. But if our cover’s blown, all bets are off. And if it comes to blows, I’m bettin’ on the house.
The general spectacle of it all: Even if we don’t get beat up, we’ll be playing a metal show with go-go dancers. The crowd will presumably be nonplussed, and even if the night goes well, it wouldn’t really make sense for them to ask us back. Truly a One Night Only event.
We’ll be dusting off an oldie and debuting a new one: As the whole show is “full of raunchy debaucherus stuff,” we’ve been asked to play our heaviest, most rockin’ set. Tru heads will of course know that our heaviest song is “Rapture,” off our first album Turn Heel. Since that one’s in a very annoying tuning — BF#BF#C#F, what we in the biz call a “string popper” — I figured we should have a second song in the same tuning to make it worth the trouble. That one doesn’t have a name yet, or lyrics, but it will by Friday…
And there ya have it. Should be a really fun time, lemme know if you wanna go!
KEEP POUNDIN’,
Craig
